The Fredonia Public Library welcomes the use of the Lafferty Room for activities of a civic, cultural, educational, recreational or social nature and for the discussion of current public questions. The meeting room is available to nonprofit organizations regardless of the beliefs or affiliations of their members. Duly constituted continuing political groups may use the room, but the advancement candidacy in a political campaign will be denied such use. Library-oriented programs will be given preference for the use of the room. The room may not be used for profit-making activities.
Any views expressed by any group using the room do not necessarily express the views of the board.
1.As of September 1, 2026, the meeting room will be available at a rate of $20 per day. This fee is refundable up to 48 hours before the scheduled meeting.
2.If a meeting is canceled, the library staff should be notified as soon as possible so the room may be made available to others. If a meeting is canceled within 48 hours of the scheduled day, the room use fee will not be refunded.
3.The Lafferty room may be scheduled for weekly, semiweekly, or monthly meetings up to but not more than three months in advance. (Subject to Approval) The user is responsible for timely renewal.
4.Use will be scheduled on a first-come, first served basis.
5.No admission fee may be charged, nor an offering taken. The only exceptions are in the case of paid registration at conferences or institutes, held in cooperation with the payment of fees for regularly scheduled educational courses sponsored by nonprofit organizations, or to raise money solely for the donation to the library.
6.Light refreshments excluding alcoholic beverages may be served, but organizations are required to provide their own utensils. Several coffee pots and a microwave are available for public use.
7.Organizations requiring audiovisual equipment may use the library’s equipment in accordance with the Library Policy and the Lafferty Room Use Agreement.
8.The organization is responsible for setting up the room according to its own needs. The library staff will bear no responsibility. If assistance is needed in setting up tables and chairs, it may be possible to provide volunteer assistance if the library staff is notified at least a week in advance. The organization or group using the room must restore the furniture and room to the order in which it was found.
9.Any printed materials or displays used by the organization must be approved by the director.
10.All publicity (e.g., posters, brochures, throwaways, radio or TV announcements) must carry the name of the organization sponsoring the meeting. The library must not be identified as a sponsor.
11.Neither the name nor the address of the library may be used as the official address or headquarters of the organization.
12.Youth organizations using the Lafferty Room must have one adult (over 21) present at all times.
13.The library is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
14.No program from the library may be broadcast or televised without the permission of the Director.
15.No smoking is permitted in the Lafferty Room or any other part of the library.
16.No group or organization using the meeting room will discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender, religion, age or disabled status in the provision of service.
17.Vehicles not identified with the disabled license or windshield tag may not park in the disabled parking space outside the Lafferty Room door.
18.Exceptions to these policies are possible only by permission of the Fredonia Library Board of Trustees.
19.One copy of the Lafferty Room Use Agreement must be signed by each person reserving the room. This copy will be kept on file at the library. A photocopy can be made free of charge at the patron’s request.
